Shows From a Photographer's View

Sunday Funday with Twiztid at The Cabooze

One band that I've been wanting to photograph for a while is September Mourning. The photos I've seen of them from past shows looked very interesting and they seemed fun to capture. So, when I got an email asking to cover September Mourning at The Cabooze, of course I jumped at the opportunity.

What I didn't know is that this was going to be mainly a hip hop show. Not a big deal, but they always cram a lot of acts into one evening. This show had a total of 9 performers/bands on the bill. The maximum time was 20 minutes a set. The first act started a little early and I only caught the last two songs after getting into the venue and getting set up. The performer was Aehter Haze and he did a great job getting the crowd going and ready for the rest of the night.

Los Suenos was up next and I really enjoyed their style. They sounded similar to bands like 311. I went into the smallish pit to get some closer photos of them and could see the crowd really getting into them!

Open Minded was next up and was pretty much the only band that I was familiar with as I had photographed them before. Their set was fast paced and ended with them throwing a large stuffed animal into the crowd that was eventually ripped to pieces. The band and some of the venue people spent a lot of time during the following act cleaning up all the stuffing!

I went in for a quick interview with September Mourning during Sam Lunacy's performance, but I caught the last few songs. It was just him and the crowd was doing their best to get up close with the clean up going on just in front of the stage.

Potent Da Rockstar was up next and was the third act that was just the one person on stage. Like the other acts, he paced back and forth on the stage and did a great job keeping the energy up from the crowd.

There was a longer pause in the music and I found out that one of the 9 performers didn't show up. I saw September Mourning setting up and was pretty excited that they had an extra 10 minutes to perform. It was still only 4 songs though which was a little upsetting. The first two songs were very strong and then it seemed that they started having issues with September's mic. Maybe that's why they cut it off early. All in all, the short set made me curious to see them in a full set sometime. The photos were as expected and you can check them out by clicking the link below!

How to Gag a Maggot was next and they certainly had lyrics from the dark side. Their songs included topics that would be considered offensive if you didn't see it as a form of expression. The crowd seemed to enjoy it with plenty of participation.

Twiztid had a longer VIP session than expected and they didn't take the stage until about half an hour after their scheduled time. Once they did take the stage, The Cabooze erupted with energy. It was clear that the people had come to see them. With the later than expected start time, I wasn't able to stay too long for their set. What I did see was quite entertaining for someone that isn't really into the genre of music.
